Traffic troubles in Tenerife!
There’s only one way to explore Tenerife, and that’s by car! Whilst this seems relatively simple, driving in Tenerife requires a little more than a driving licence and a hire car! Tenerifian’s are renowned for being erratic drivers, so there are a few things you ought to bear in mind before you brave the roads on your Tenerife holidays.
First things first, something definitely worth remembering is that like many European’s, they drive on the wrong side of the road in Tenerife! Pedestrians should be another of your key concerns, whether you are driving or spending the day as one! Pedestrian crossings aren’t always placed in the most logical locations, so when you are going round a bus, take it slow incase the bus is blocking one! Stopping for pedestrian crossings isn’t top of the list for drivers in Tenerife, so make sure you check the driver really is slowing down before you cross! Many Tenerifian’s also favour pedestrian crossings as parking spots, so they aren’t always so easy to access! Generally when it comes to parking anywhere will do, and no space is too small for a driver in Tenerife!
It might sound a little scary, but if you bear these things in mind, you will soon get the hang of driving in Tenerife! There are plenty of upsides to driving in Tenerife too! Most of the roads are generally quite quiet, and there’s plenty of interesting places to visit en route to your destinations, just look out for the signs along the road! Drives through the mountains are a great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery, so long as you are confident enough to tackle often steep and windy roads!
If you are staying at the quieter resorts on the island, hiring a car gives you the freedom to travel to nearby attractions in the day and catch the entertainment at the livelier resorts at night. If you choose Costa Adeje holidays, the islands capital Santa Cruz and the lively resort of Playa de Las Americas are just a short drive away! Driving on your Tenerife holiday gives you the freedom and flexibility to do what you want, so don’t be put off, just remember to keep these few things in mind!
